Issue Title: How to Acclimate Your Dog for Grooming – From Puppies to Reactive Pals

Hey Pack Members,

Whether you’ve just welcomed a bouncy new puppy or you’re navigating the grooming world with a high-anxiety or reactive dog, one thing’s for sure—starting off on the right paw makes all the difference (yes, pun intended).

Grooming should never be a stressful experience. It’s a form of care, connection, and confidence-building. But for many dogs, the sounds, smells, and sensations can be overwhelming—especially if they’ve never had a positive intro to the process.

This week, we’re diving into simple, gentle steps you can take at home to help your pup feel safer and more secure with grooming—whether it’s their very first visit or they’re learning to trust again.

Step 1: Touch Desensitization

Start by gently handling your dog’s paws, ears, tail, and muzzle during cuddle time. Use calm praise and treats. The goal? Teach them that being touched isn’t scary—it’s just love in action.

Step 2: Introduce the Tools

Let them see and sniff brushes, nail clippers, and even the hair dryer (on the lowest setting). Turn clippers or dryers on from a distance so they get used to the noise without being overwhelmed.

Step 3: Keep Sessions Short and Sweet

Practice mock grooming sessions at home—just a minute or two at first. End on a high note with their favorite treat or toy. Consistency is key here!

Step 4: Visit the Groomer Without Grooming

If you’ve got a reactive or anxious dog, schedule a “happy visit.” Let them walk around, sniff the space, meet the groomer, and leave without anything scary happening. That positive association builds trust.

Step 5: Always Advocate for Your Dog

You know your dog best. Choose a groomer who’s patient, experienced with behavioral or medical cases, and willing to go at your dog’s pace. The right groomer will never rush or force a fearful dog.
